"Karoo" Sale tops $12,000 

All 64 bulls sold at the Reen family's 13th annual Karoo Angus sale at Meadow Flat last Thursday, topping at $12,000 and averaging $5710.

The 100 per cent clearance was welcomed by John Reen and daughter, Annie Scott, who described the sale as solid and consistent.  "We are happy with the result - it was a solid sale without being extreme", Mrs Scott said.

"Our bulls are consistent and we were also happy with the turnout of buyers - with a mix of both new and repeat buyers attending."

Making the top purchase of the sale at $12,000 were interstate phone bidders, Peter, Jock and Jenny Hughes, of Cluden Newry Angus Stud, Longford Tasmania.

That bull, Karoo A241 Equator E39, sired by Ardrossan Equator A241 and from Karoo Elsa Y87, weighed 864 kilograms and had a scrotal circumference of 40 centimetres.

The bull had 200-, 400- and 600- day weight estimated breeding values (EBV's) of +44, +86 and +112, an eye muscle area (EMA EBV of +5.8 and intramuscular fat EBV of +1.9.

The second-top priced bull sold for $10,500 and went to Mark, Sue and Sam Evans, "Martindale", Walgett.

Karoo 338 Right Time E245 weighed 836kg and had a scrotal circumference of 41cm.

The Evans family also purchased the heaviest bull of the draft, at 872kg, for $10,000

Volume buyer, Chris Stonestreet, "Fernside" Barri via Blayney, purchased a total of five bulls for a top of $8500 and an average of $7400.

He purchased two bulls at a top of $8500.

Mr Stonestreet, who is a repeat buyer at the sale, said he was looking for growth in his bulls and was happy with his purchases.

Other purchases were the Neiberding family, "Pamaroy" Coonabarabran, who purchased a bull for $9000.

Rick & Erica Mitchell, Riverview Wallah and Company, Rugby, purchased a bull for $5500.

Roger Parker, "Nestbrook", Oberon, purchased a bull for $5000.

The sale was conducted by Ray White Emms Mooney, Blayney
